William was first introduced to the theatre through his work as a tour manager for the American Drama Group, Europe. He is the author of numerous dramatic works, including full-length plays, solo dramas, one acts and ten minute shorts. His work has been performed in Miami, Chicago, Los Angeles, New York, Pittsburgh, Minneapolis, San Francisco, Edinburgh, London and Belgrade, Serbia, among other cities. William’s critically acclaimed one act play Knuckleball, called by the San Francisco Bay Guardian “the best dramatic work I've seen at any Fringe” was produced first in Los Angeles at Casa 0101, then at the Iowa, New York and San Francisco fringe festivals. It won awards for Best Play and Best Production at the San Francisco festival. Knuckleball will be performed at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in August, 2009 at the prestigious Hill Street Theatre (Universal Arts Productions). The play is published by Original Works (http://www.originalworksonline.com William’s tough, controversial look at child abuse, Pigeon Man Apocalypse, after successful runs in London and Edinburgh in 2006, was invited by the National Theater of Serbia to open the International Festival of Solo Drama and Mime, 2007. Pigeon Man then toured fringe festivals in the US, including Iowa, Minnesota and New York. The show was called “raw, livid…utterly mesmeric” by the London Times. As a result of some explosive personal history that came to light during the production of this show, the actor who performed the role of Arthur Cork (Andy McQuade) was given a book contract to write the story of his life. Titled Breaking the Chain, it is published in the UK by Michael O’Mara Books, Ltd. Another solo show, The Hideous Face of Love, was nominated for Best Play at the 16th annual Pittsburgh New Works Festival (2006). A revised version was performed in London and at the Boulder, Colorado Fringe Festival. William’s full-length farce Angela Unbound was a finalist in Theatre Conspiracy’s 9th Annual New Plays Contest (2006) and is currently under consideration for development by the Blank Theater Company of Los Angeles. His solo drama He Who Outruns Rainstorms was a finalist in Alliance Theater of Atlanta’s Kendeda Playwriting Competition (2005), where it received a staged reading. His musical Yeehad! received a University of Southern California Arts Grant (2005) and was performed at the Edinburgh Fringe in 2005, where it received four star reviews from both Three Weeks and British Theatre Guide. His one act farce Menage a Trois won Best Play at Eclectic Theater’s Hurricane Season of One Acts in Los Angeles, 2004. His MFA thesis play at Florida International University, Mosshead, won first place in the Theater League of South Florida Annual New Plays Prize (2002), and earned him a finalist place in the Jerome Playwright in Residence Competition for 2004.

William is currently the writer-in-residence at London’s most daring new theatre company, Second Skin. He is currently revising his full-length play Rasputin for Second Skin. The play had a limited run at London’s Pentameters Theatre and is scheduled to reopen at Rosemary Branch Theatre in June, 2009. The London-based Russian language daily Anglia called the abbreviated version of the show “provocative and immensely compelling.” William holds an MFA in Creative Writing (Drama) from Florida International University and an MFA in Theater and Playwriting from the University of Southern California as well as an MA in European History from the University of Chicago. He is a proud member of the Dramatist’s Guild of America. |
